Q. What is it?
A. A new project District 25A has started to make it possible for all
clubs
that desire to have a Web Site have an easy, affordable way to do so.
Q. How much does it cost?
A. The cost is $50 per year.
Q. What does that include?
A. It includes your own Domain name, such as
www.myclub.org,
or whatever
you'd like, pending availability, a full Web Hosting
package, (details here),
a basic one page Web Site to help you get you started
if you'd like, and
tech support if needed.
Q. What will be required of my Club?
A. Although a basic Web page is included, you are encouraged to find
someone
in your club to develop your own Web page and keep it current. If
there is
no one in the club with the skills to do this, you can usually find
one of the
member's children, or someone through the local schools that would be
happy to help.
Q. LionNet offers hosting
free. Why should I spend $50 of the club's money
for something I can get free?
A. LionNet and others offer a great service, but what is the use of
having a
Web Site if no one can find it? Having an address like
www.myclub.lionwap.org
is, at best, difficult to remember, but everyone can find
www.myclub.org,
and
remember it. In addition, remember that this is a District 25A
project, meaning
that ALL money in excess of the actual hosting cost and Domain
registration
costs STAY right here in District 25A to support Lions projects. In
addition,
there will be a link page on the District 25A Web Site with a link to
your club.
Q. Why does my club even need
a Web Site.
A. A Web Site, designed and maintained properly, lets your members know
what
is happening in the club if they can't attend meetings regularly,
and when
promoted properly lets the community know first
that you are there, and
second, what you are doing, and have done. My club, the
Schererville Central Lions
(please stop by and have a look)
has seen our last seven members join as a result
of the Web Site.
These are people that would have joined other clubs, other
organizations,
or maybe not joined anything at all. They found us either by a search
engine,
a link on the Library's Web Site, another web link, or from something
with
our club name on it, which also has our web address.
That is a marketing
tool that is working
for your club 24/7. And let's face it, in this day
and age
people EXPECT you to have a Web Page.
Q.
Hey! What about me? My club is not in District 25-A. Can I still get in
on this
great deal?
A. Absolutely! The more the merrier. There is room for everyone.
Q. How can I get started?
A. For any questions you may have, email the webmaster at:
webmaster@lions25a.org.
If you are ready to sign up, send a check payable to District 25A,
along with
contact information and your first three choices of Domain names to:
Howard Bernstein
1631 Novo Drive
Schererville, IN 46375
When I receive the check I will register the Domain name, set up the
Hosting
account and forward the check to the CST. I will contact you with all
the
details as soon as everything is set up, and will find out at
that time
whether you want a basic page developed or if there is someone in the
club
ready to become your webmaster.
Q. Is this as difficult as it
sounds?
A. No.
